Working together with Rotary Club of Nottingham and Nottingham City Council, the John E Wright pop-up Santa’s Grotto was again put to good use this weekend. Did you know there are over 700 children under the care of the Temporary Housing Unit of the NCC. 155 of them turned up for what is possibly their only Christmas party and were treated to a full day of fun and entertainment including a magician, various games, lots of food & treats and of course Santa in his cosy Grotto. This is the second year the event has been held at the Oliver Hind Social Club in Snenton, Nottingham and, despite the shocking weather, numbers were up on last year as word spreads what a great day out it is for young families in temporary accommodation.
The Grotto and Santa are being worked hard this week and are appearing at the Broxtowe Womens’ Project in Eastwood and at the Bilborough Street Festival – everyone welcome!
The main purpose of the Grotto is provide some fun for children and young families who might not otherwise be able to fully enjoy the charms of Christmas. 100% of any donations received are sent to the Children’s Cancer Ward at the Nottingham City Hospital. The grotto is provided, installed and decommissioned FOC by John E Wright & Co Ltd and the staff are all volunteers mainly from the Rotary Club of Nottingham to which Tony Barnett, MD, is an active member and financial supporter.
