CHAMPNEY HOUSE

As part of a £3.3 million initiative to establish a welcoming cultural hub for the East Riding, the Champney Treasure House has been transformed with new interior, exterior and wayfinding signage. This renovation project involved the modernisation of various services and facilities, along with the relocation of several cultural services from across Beverley into this improved space.

These enhancements aim to provide an enriched customer experience while maximizing value for money. Key improvements include a new customer service center, an upgraded library, and a new location within the building for the reference library.

Additionally, the council’s registration services have been relocated from Walkergate House to the Champney Treasure House. The project also features a new Changing Places facility and beautifully landscaped Champney Gardens. The complex is named after John Edward Champney, a local businessman from the early 1900s who made several significant donations to the original Beverley Public Library and Art Gallery.

The Champney Treasure House project required a diverse range of signage solutions to cater to its various spaces and functions. This necessitated the use of a wide array of materials and printing techniques such as;

Double-sided external hanging banners: These large-format banners, printed on our Canon Colorado, provide high visibility and impact for external messaging, to promote events or key information about the Treasure House. The double-sided printing ensures visibility from multiple directions.

Aluminum signage trays: These fabricated and powder-coated aluminum trays offer a durable and professional base for signage. CAD-cut vinyl lettering and graphics were applied to the trays, providing crisp and clean text and imagery. Powder coating ensures a long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing finish.

Bespoke lecterns: Custom-designed and fabricated lecterns, also powder-coated for durability, were created for presentations or information points. Clear polycarbonate panels with reverse-printed graphics add a sophisticated touch, protecting the print while maintaining a clear and legible display. Reverse printing also prevents wear and tear on the printed surface.

Contravision: This perforated window film was used on several areas of the building. From the outside, it creates a solid, visually appealing image, while allowing those inside to see out without compromising natural light.

Anthracite matte grey acrylic: For a more premium and tactile feel, anthracite matte grey acrylic was used. White ink was printed onto the acrylic and then finished with a clear varnish, creating an embossed effect. Our Zund cutter, known for its precision, was used to cut the acrylic with a polished edge, further enhancing the quality. The Mimaki JFX 200EX, a high-quality flatbed printer, was used for the direct-to-substrate printing. This combination of materials and techniques created signage with a sophisticated and dimensional look.

Custom-made LED light boxes: These light boxes provide bright and even illumination for backlit graphics, ensuring high visibility even in low-light conditions. They are ideal for displaying promotional materials or directional information.

Vinyl wall graphic: Vinyl graphics were applied in several areas of the building to add visual interest, information, and branding to the space. Wall vinyl is a a thin, flexible vinyl material with an adhesive backing, allowing them to be applied to a variety of smooth surfaces.

This multifaceted approach to signage materials and techniques demonstrates a commitment to creating a visually appealing, functional, and durable wayfinding system for the Champney Treasure House.

Our highly skilled team of PASMA and IPAF-qualified fitters completed the installation, utilising scaffold towers and MEWPs (Mobile Elevated Work Platforms) as needed.

We commissioned John E Wright to produce and install the internal and external signage and displays at the newly renovated Champney Treasure House in Beverley.  The rep was happy to meet with us on site to advise before we finalised any orders, which was really helpful.  The signage and displays consisted of a mix of directional signage, promotional displays and window vinyls which were all produced and installed on time and to a high standard.
